The Met Gala, fashion's biggest night, had the opportunity to make a bold statement about the urgency of environmental conservation with this year's theme, "Garden of Time." Inspired by J.G. Ballard's short story, the concept held the promise of an evening dedicated to celebrating nature and raising awareness about our rapidly changing environment. However, the execution fell short, failing to embrace the theme's potential to drive meaningful dialogue and action.
The "Garden of Time" theme presented a unique opportunity for attendees to showcase sustainable fashion and highlight the beauty and fragility of our natural world. Yet, as the night unfolded, it became increasingly clear that many attendees had missed the mark, opting for looks and designs that nodded to time and nature on purely aesthetic levels.
Zendaya and Kim Kardashian stunned in beautiful, not so sustainable gowns
That said, there were a few notable guests that paid tribute to our shared Garden, showing in sustainable looks and brands putting a step forward in the industry:
FKA Twigs, Stella McCartney, Ed Sheeran and Cara Delevingne in Stella McCartney
Amanda Seyfried in 2009 Prada
Maria Sharapova in Boll & Branch
Charli XCX in Marni, made from upcycled vintage worn-out T-shirts
Demi Moore in Harris Reed, made from upcycled wallpaper
What do you wish you could have seen come out of this year's Met Gala theme?
