Double Denim Is Back: 11 Sustainable Denim & Jeans Brands You Should Know

Denim has become an essential part of modern fashion, and ‘Double Denim’ is making its way back into our wardrobes if we’re to believe the trends for 2023. Jeans were originally designed for working-class people in the late 1800s and rose to popularity at the beginning of the 1900 with Hollywood stars such as Marlon Brando and James Dean popularising denim jeans in movies, making them a symbol of rebellion and nonconformity.

This time, Hollywood royalty is once again bringing back not only denim, but double denim. Never to forget the iconic 2021 American Music Awards moment where then-couple Britney Spears & Justin Timberlake cemented the style with matching denim sets!

As denim and jeans have become a staple in many wardrobes, the production however does not always come without its environmental impact. The production of denim requires a large amount of water, energy, and chemicals, but there are many efforts being made to increase the sustainability of denim and jeans, including the use of sustainable materials, water conservation, chemical reduction, recycling and upcycling, and ethical production practices.

As consumers, we can make a difference by choosing sustainable denim and jeans and supporting brands that prioritize sustainability. Here are some of the sustainable brands that are making a difference with sustainable jeans garments.
